In last year’s game against Heritage, the Admirals jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first 6 minutes before winning 38-14. This year, the venue was different, but the result was the same as Farragut beat Heritage at Bill Clabo field 47-16 on Homecoming night.
Farragut (5-1, 3-0) scored on 5 of their 7 first half possessions and took a 34-0 lead into the half against the Mountaineers (1-6, 0-4).
After Heritage was forced to punt on their first drive, QB Cody Rule scored on a 42 yard run 3:22 into the game.
Heritage then started to do their part to ensure an Admiral victory by beginning a series of miscues. On the next drive for the Mountaineers, Robert Wrinkle recoved a fumble on the Heritage 14. Jacob Johnson scored 3 plays later on a 1 yard run.
On it’s next series, the Mountaineers consumed over 6 minutes on a drive but came up empty when Caleb Whitney blocked a field goal attempt. Jackson Fain then added another TD for the Admirals as he ran it in from the 40 on the 3rd play of the ensuing drive.
The defense continued to force turnovers as both Thomas Barnett and Jake Bruce intercepted passes and the Admirals converted both turnovers into touchdowns – one on a pass from Rule to WR Zach Thomas for 20 yards and the second on a 1 yard run by RB Christian Jetton.
Wedged in between two late touchdowns by the Mountaineers, QB Bryan Phillips capped off a 10 play – 59 yard drive by scoring from the 7 yard line.
Next week – it’s the Battle of West Knoxville as the Admirals go on the road to play the Bearden Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1) on Thursday night at 7:30pm.
