Admirals Dominate Irish 31-10

The Fighting Irish of Knoxville Catholic High School came into Friday night’s game with the Admirals hoping to extend their record to 3-0. The Irish did get off to a good start with a field goal on their first possession and they also punched in a touchdown with 21 seconds left in the game. Unfortunately for Catholic those were their only two highlights as Farragut totally controlled the rest of the game in claiming a one-sided 31-10 victory over the Irish.

The Admirals offense was almost unstoppable. Their rushing game simply overwhelmed the Catholic defense. Jacob Johnson and Cody Rule led the way for Farragut as they both scored two touchdowns. Jackson Fain and Christian Jetton also ran impressively during the game. Of course, the key to the rushing game was the Admirals offensive line. The young men up front for Farragut completely dominated the Irish front seven. The only downside to the evening offensively was the nine holding calls that the Admirals were penalized for. In one Farragut possession two touchdowns were called back because of holding penalties.

The Farragut defense was also very good as they completely shutdown the Irish offense. At one point during the game the Catholic offense had six possessions in which they only managed one first down. Five of those possessions were three and outs which is a pretty good indicator of how thoroughly the Admirals defense dominated the game. Every time a Catholic running back got to the line of scrimmage he was engulfed by a swarm of blue clad defenders. Identifying individual standouts on the defense was tough because of this swarming activity – let’s just say the entire defense deserves a game ball.

The Admirals special teams performed extremely well. Jacob Johnson had a 99 yard kick-off return for a touchdown to start the second half. Jonathan King continues to boom kick-offs into the end zone and he was perfect on extra points and field goals. King’s punting was also impressive although the effectiveness of the Admiral’s offense makes it a rarely used weapon.

This win leaves the Admirals with a 1-0 district record and an overall record of 2-1. Farragut’s next game is on Sept. 9 when they travel down I-75 to Athens and take on the McMinn County Cherokees.
