The Admirals traveled 8 miles east down Kingston Pike to take on Bearden Friday looking to improve to 9-0 on the season.

The Bearden rushing attack would be strong all night as it allowed Bearden to keep the ball for almost the first ten minutes of the first quarter.

The Admiral defense however stood strong as it forced a 37 yard Bulldog field goal that put the Bulldogs on the board first with a 3-0 lead with 2:24 remaining in the first quarter. The Admiral offense took over and got off to a quick start, but their first drive stalled out at the 20 yard line. Daniel Bethel was brought on to attempt a 37 yard field goal that sailed through the uprights and tied the score at 3 with 11:52 left before halftime.

Another long Bulldog drive ended with a 3 yard touchdown run giving Bearden a 10-3 lead with 7:12 left in the 2nd. The Admiral offense would take over, but a quick three-and-out gave Bearden the ball back. The Admiral defense struck again, this time it was Eli Purcell forcing a fumble that stopped a threatening Bearden drive since the 10 yard line. A 37 yard Gavin Wilkinson to Jaden Gibbs completion helped the Ads get into Bearden territory. However, a sack-fumble would end the Farragut drive and give the Bulldogs a 10-3 lead over Farragut at halftime.

The second half kicked off and Farragut took over at midfield following a 48 yard Isaiah Gibbs kick return.

A healthy dose of the Farragut rushing attack would march the Admirals downfield and that drive culminated in a 4 yard Isaiah Gibbs touchdown run and tied the game at 10 with 8:12 left in the 3rd. The Farragut defense forced the first Bearden punt of the night and gave the Admirals the ball at their own 10.

The Farragut offense marched down the field, but the drive would stall and again Daniel Bethel would be called into action. This time Bethel would be good from 47 yards out, giving the Admirals their first lead of the game 13-10 with 11:14 to play.

The Bulldogs took over and had another long, time consuming drive. This time it was 65 yards on 8 plays and scoring on a 6 yard pass play, giving the lead back to Bearden, 17-13, with 6:31 to play. The Admiral offense took the field looking to answer the call for a touchdown. A 39 yard Gavin Wilkinson to Jaden Gibbs third down conversion gave the Admirals life. However, four plays later a 3rd and 1 turned into a 3rd and 31 after two, 15 yard, dead ball penalties. This proved to be insurmountable for Farragut and a failed fourth down conversion sealed their fate. The Admirals would fall 17-13 to Bearden giving them their first loss of the season.

The Admirals will have a much needed bye week in week 10 and host Hardin Valley on October 26th in the season finale.

Farragut returned home Friday night to Bill Clabo Field for the first time in three weeks to host a big region matchup with Dobyns-Bennett.

As they have all season long, the Admiral offense wasted no time getting started after receiving the opening kickoff.

A balanced attack to start the game allowed the Admirals to march 80 yards on 8 plays, sparked by a 32-yard Gavin Wilkinson to Tanner Corum completion. Kyle Carter found the end zone from 3 yards out to give Farragut a 7-0 lead over DB with 9:01 left in the 1st.  The Dobyns-Bennett offense took over and played their ball control offense perfectly on their first possession.  A 17-play drive that had no pass attempts, took 9:14 off the clock and spilled into the 2nd quarter, ended with a missed 30-yard field goal attempt.

The Admirals took over at their own 20 and began to march down the field.  QB Jake Evans

came in and drove the offense inside the red zone.  The drive stalled and ended with a Daniel Bethel missed field goal attempt from 28 yards.  Dobyns-Bennett took over at their own 20 yard line. A Caleb Kuhn tackle for loss on 3rd-and-1 setup a 4th-and-3 for the Indians.  Kuhn again would come up big, tackling the DB running back in the backfield to give the Admirals the ball back at their own 41 with 5:27 left before half.  A big third down conversion came as Jake Evans found Tanner Corum for a 32-yard completion.  Two plays later Kyle Carter found pay dirt from 4 yards out, extending the Farragut lead to 14-0 with 3:27 left before half.  The Indians however would not go quietly into halftime, scoring via a 3-yard carry to make the score 14-7 at the break.

The Admiral defense came out of the gates strong in the second half, forcing a three-and-out on the first DB drive of the half.  A 25-yard Wyatt Lucas punt return for the Admirals put the ball at the DB 30.  A 23-yard Isaiah Gibbs run on first down setup a 7-yard Jake Evans touchdown run that put the score at 21-7 in favor of Farragut with 9:48 left in the 3rd.  The ensuing Indian drive was sparked by a 59-yard run, but 60 yards in penalties over the span of two plays killed a promising dive for DB and they punted away on 4th-and-50.

Quarterback Jake Evans jump started an Admiral drive by picking up a 3rd and 8th via a 23-yard screen play to Tanner Corum.  Four plays later, Kyle Carter scored his third touchdown of the night on a 25-yard run, and the Admirals led 28-7 with 3:18 left in the 3rd.  Farragut’s defense was ready to stand tall again, this time it was Neyland Harmon batting a ball down on third down.

Another fourth down conversion was thwarted when Caleb Kuhn and Jake Parsons met the DB running back in the backfield for no gain.  The Admirals wasted no time, picking up 31 yards on the first play of the drive via a Matt White run.

The fourth quarter opened with the Admirals on the DB 14-yard line after the big play by White.  A fourth down conversion by the Admirals and 1-yard Isaiah Gibbs touchdown run gave the Admirals a 35-7 lead with 10:58 left to play.  Dobyns-Bennett did not let up though, a 48-yard carry on their first play setup a 32-yard touchdown run making the score 35-14 with 10:40 left.  Farragut took over their next possession and needing to convert a third down. Isaiah Gibbs would answer the call in a big way, converting with a 32-yard run.  Next up was Kyle Carter, on 3rd-and-4, he carried 35 yards to score and put the Admirals up 42-14 with 8:03 left in the game.

The Indians next drive would be stopped by yet another big play by Caleb Kuhn, this time a 14-yard sack. Farragut would get the ball back with 6:16 left to play and looked to milk the clock.  However, the Indians had other ideas, a blocked punt recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by Dobyns-Bennett showed their resiliency.  As time expired, the Admirals had beaten the Indians 42-20 and improved to 8-0 on the season and 4-0 in region.  It was a fitting win for the Admirals as it came on Coach Courtney’s 65th birthday and gave them their first 8-0 start since 1978, Coach Courtney’s second season at Farragut.

The Admirals hit the road next week and travel down Kingston Pike to play rival Bearden. The game is the Rivalry Thursday Game of The Week, so it will be on TV Thursday night, with kickoff set for 7:00pm.

The Admirals took a two hour bus ride to Johnson City on Friday to take on the Hilltoppers of Science Hill.  Farragut was looking to improve to 7-0 on the season and 3-0 in region play.

Things started fast for Farragut, the defense came out of the gate strong, forcing a three-and-out on the first series.  The Admiral offense took over at the Topper 48 yard line.  A 37-yard run by Isaiah Gibbs sparked the offense.  Three plays later, a Kyle Carter two yard touchdown run put the Admirals ahead 7-0 with 8:52 left in the 1st.  Another stop by the Admiral defense gave the offense the ball back at their own 33. Quarterback Gavin Wilkinson found both Jaden and Isaiah Gibbs on the drive for a combined 54 yards and setup an 8-yard Kyle Carter touchdown run.  After a blocked extra point, Farragut led 13-0 with 3:40 left in the 1st.  The ensuing Topper drive ended on a  failed fourth down conversion to end the 1st quarter.

Farragut opened the 2nd quarter with a punt back to the Toppers, but a Jake Evans interception ended the drive.  However, the Admirals couldn’t capitalize on the turnover and punted away.  After another Science Hill punt, the Admirals took over at the Topper 49.

A 33-yard Gavin Wilkinson to Jaden Gibbs connection helped setup a 3-yard Kyler Carter touchdown run, his third of the night.  This put the score at 20-0 in favor Farragut with 3:59 left before half. After a Topper punt, a 45-yard interception return by Science Hill set them up with the ball at 8 yard line of the Admirals with :56 left before halftime.  Three plays later, the Toppers punched it in from one yard out to make it 20-7 at the break.

It was a tale of two halves though.

The third quarter saw both teams traded punts twice to end the quarter. The fourth quarter started just as the third had, with a Farragut punt. The Science Hill offense found life in the fourth, driving the ball 78 yards on ten plays to find the end zone on a 16-yard run.  Farragut still led 20-14 with 8:13 left to play.  Another Farragut punt gave the Toppers the ball at their own 38-yard line.  Two plays later, the Toppers competed a 67-yard screen pass that found the end zone, giving Science Hill their first lead of the game, 21-20.

The Admirals got the ball back at their own 24 with 6:15 left in the game, needing points.  The Admirals embarked on a 13-play drive that saw 10 run plays help chew the clock and move the ball.  The drive stalled out just inside the Hilltoppers 10 yard line, setting up a 4th and 9.  Daniel Bethel was called into action, this time from 25 yards out.  Bethel drilled the field goal attempt and gave the Admirals a 23-21  lead with 2:30 left in the game.

Science Hill took over at their own 15 and was looking to move quickly and get points. The Toppers were threatening as they marched down to the Farragut 43, but a Wyatt Lucas interception ended the hopes of the Toppers. The final bell sounded and the Admirals improved to 7-0 and 3-0 in the region after a 23-21 victory of Science Hill.

Farragut continues region play next week hosting Dobyns-Bennett at Bill Clabo Field, kickoff is set for 7:30. The Admirals will be looking to break a six game losing streak to the Indians that dates back to 2010.

The Admirals traveled to West High School Friday night to take on the Rebels in the final non-region matchup of the season.  Prior to this matchup, the West defense was allowing just over 12 points to opposing offenses, while the Admiral offense came into the game averaging almost 39 points per game.  The Admirals knew points would be at a premium, just as they were in last year’s matchup when it took two interceptions returned for touchdowns by the Admiral defense to beat the Rebels 14-9.

Farragut received the opening kickoff, but the Rebel defense showed up ready for action, forcing a 3-and-out on the first drive.  The Admiral defense settled in after several big plays and was able to force a 30-yard Rebel field goal, the Rebels led the Ads 3-0 with 6:18 left in the 1st.  The next 4 and a half minutes looked identical, a three-and-out by the Admiral offense  and a Rebel field goal, this time from 34 yards out.  West extended their lead to 6-0 with 1:42 left in the first.  Farragut’s offense took over at the 20 yard line and looked to shake off two straight three-and-outs. A 12-yard conversion on third down sparked the Admiral offense.  Four plays later, Gavin Wilkinson found Matt White on a 38-yard touchdown pass to give the Admirals a 7-6 lead to close the first quarter.

The second quarter opened with the Admiral defense on the field.  Four penalties by the offense and an Eli Purcell sack forced a Rebel punt.  The Farragut offense found themselves backed up against their own goal at the 4-yard line, but the West defense again forced a three-and-out.  A short punt and an 8-yard return gave the West offense life at the Farragut 31-yard line.

However, the Admiral defense was up to the task, an Eli Purcell sack/fumble and recovery by Joey Dietz ended the threatening Rebel drive.  The Admiral offense took over with 3:10 left, looking for points before half. A promising drive ended after a 7-yard sack on third down forced another Admiral punt.  With just 20 seconds left, a West kneel closed out the half with Farragut leading 7-6.

The West offense opened the second half with the ball, but the Admiral defense set a tone that would carry through out the rest of the game by forcing a three-and-out.  After the Rebel punt, a promising Admiral drive was stopped when a missed exchange ended in a fumble at the West 3-yard line.

The Rebels threatened inside the red zone, but this time it would be Kyle Carter forcing the fumble as he sacked the quarterback and Benji Cheatham came up with the fumble recovery.  The Farragut offense took over at its own 13-yard line with 5:00 left in the third. The Admirals would lean on quarterback Gavin Wilkinson, throwing the ball six out of seven plays and finally finding Isaiah Gibbs on a 6-yard touchdown pass.  This extended the Farragut lead to 14-6 at the end of the third.

A Rebel punt gave the Admiral offense the ball to open the fourth quarter, but a sack and holding penalty forced another Brady Hodges punt.  The Farragut defense continued to create turnovers,  this time via a Gabe Hensley forced fumble and another Benji Cheatham recovery.  The Admiral offense took over at the Rebel 14-yard line and wasted no time.  Isaiah Gibbs carried the ball into the end zone from 14 yards outs on the first play of the drive to extend the Admiral lead to 21-6.

Another Eli Purcell sack and multiple unsportsmanlike penalties forced a Rebel punt on 4th and 68.  The Admirals would punt away after a failed third down conversion, but the Admiral defense would stand strong to close out the game.  One final kneel by Gavin Wilkinson ended the game and saw the Admirals improve to 6-0 after a hard fought 21-6 win over West.

Farragut returns to region action next week as they travel to Johnson City to take on the Science Hill Hilltoppers.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 next Friday in Upper East Tennessee.
